We stumbled upon a beautiful poem over a year ago. We lucked into tremendous neighbors with artistic talent and members generous with their donations. That all combines into a gorgeous community table at Main Market Co-op, complete with wisdom and energy that characterizes our work.
This evening celebration with the poet, Joy Harjo, kicks off our week long Grand Opening Celebration of Main Market Co-op!
Join us after closing for this special gathering - a chance to meet Joy Harjo, fully celebrate our table's purpose at Main Market and enjoy light appetizers from our own talented kitchen!
Tuesday, February 16th, 2010 @ 1:00 PM Ribbon Cutting with Spokane Mayor
Attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony at 1pm on Tuesday, February 16th at 44 W. Main. Mayor Mary Verner and Main Market Co-op Board president John Grollmus welcome a special guest artist, and invite the community to celebrate Spokane’s only consumer food co-op. The open to the public ribbon cutting takes place after more than two years of planning and construction, and the active investment of time, money and heart by Main Market Cooperative staff, Board and most importantly the member-owners.
This gathering marks the culmination of work to transform a Goodyear Tire business into a thriving natural foods grocery. Built to the US Green Building Council L.E.E.D. Gold specifications, the past and the present marry under this new roof. “Remodeling an existing building earns accreditation points; recycling of letters and fixtures earns karma points,” says project lead Jennifer M. Hall.
