FRESH Kicks off Edible Austin Eat Local Week
Edible Austin and the Paramount Theatre will present an Austin community screening of FRESH on December 5, for our 2009 kickoff of Edible Austin Eat Local Week, an annual week-long celebration of local food and fundraiser for Urban Roots.
This event will feature special appearances and a panel talk-back with Joel Salatin of Polyface Farms (featured in the film) and FRESH director/producer, Ann Sofia Joanes. There will also be opportunities to meet and talk to many of Austin's local food nonprofit and support groups at the event.
Tickets are on sale now at http://www.austintheatre.org/fresh. Tickets are $15, $25 and $100. The $100 tickets are the best seats in the house and will include admission to the pre-screening reception for Joel Salatin, Ana Joanes and other special guests to be held at the State Theatre lobby featuring some of Austin's top local chefs preparing locally sourced food tastings and local beverages and cocktails.
ABOUT EDIBLE AUSTIN EAT LOCAL WEEK: Of course every week is "eat local week" in our book, but Edible Austin Eat Local Week, our winter fundraiser event, is an invitation to Central Texans to explore and celebrate the abundance of local food and to raise money for Urban Roots, a youth development program that uses sustainable agriculture as a means to transform the lives of young people and to increase the access of healthy food in Austin. 15 farm interns, ages 14-17, are hired to work from February to July, growing more than 22,000 lbs of produce every year—donating 40% of that to hunger relief and selling 60% at farmers' markets and farm stands run by the farm interns.
